Mission: The Relics of Isonzo

Summary: Kiam and Guidry chat and meet Nurse Poe as they prepare the shuttle's medical supplies for the Isonzo landing.
Timeline: Mission Day 1 at 1245

Kiam Aax, the ever-smiling, did so as Doctor Guidry strode the corridor toward the Ulysses' main shuttlebay. Despite the panels and the mood of the ship being heightened, the bezels of the consoles they encountered flashing yellow, Kiam seemed somewhat at ease. She was pushing a hovering flatbed with several blue and green cases, most of them stacked and bearing the symbol of Starfleet Medical. It was a medical and emergency supply outfit for the entirety of the landing party, including emergency thermal blankets thermal wear, freeze-dried nutrition bars, and silvery pouches of TKLs- standard rations, ready to reconstitute.

"The Zheng He is sending down their Chief Medical Officer," Kiam said, continuing their conversation, "She's a Captain of Medical... I'm sort of jealous. I don't like cold weather, but this's a major opportunity."

Bryden smirked and nodded. "I wouldn't say jealous, but I am in awe." He said for himself as he pulled a second hover of supplies and carried a padd in his off hand with the inventory of their medical supplies listed out. He seemed fairly nonplussed by the yellow alert as well, though she likely knew that was mainly because he had a task. When he could focus on that and do his job, he was fairly unflappable.

"The unknown draws us, all of us on this ship or in this uniform." Bryden said as if trying to explain, then he fell silent and shrugged. The emergency had cost Starfleet invaluably already, even one life was priceless. That he wasn't unnerved by it, that his wonder at the unknown, his desire to fill in the blanks of the mystery had overcome any trepidation caused its own little bit of guilt in the man.

Warmly the Betazoid smiled at the man, "Did you see yourself doing this... even ten years ago?" Kiam inquired. Her own look was thoughtful and with a smiling headshake, narrowed of eye, she said, "I'd heard of the Federation, but I didn't think I'd be wearing one of their uniforms. It's probably more interesting than treating Bandola's Syndrome, or nursing middle-aged women through the change."

Bryden chuckled and shook his head. "I didn't think I'd be here ten years ago. I know I wanted something like it, but I wasn't the best at focusing on the future." He took a deep breath. "I knew I wanted to follow in my parents steps, medicine and science. But doing it on starship with various missions...I can't say even the Academy prepared me for it."

Kiam's smile was agreeable done, toothy while she nodded, "Not the Interspecies Medical Exchange either," she mused to her colleague, "One day I was standing in Loneel City waiting for my transport, flash forward and I felt like in no time, I was watching a B'Saari Re-animate do some simple mathematics," she said. "The Academy was..." she twisted her mouth, "It was worth the time, but it felt like doing medicine in Starfleet's way. Not what the patient might need." She shrugged, "Did you ever join the Interspecies Medical Exchange?"

Bryden shook his head. "No, throughout the Academy I rode the fence between finishing the Medical track and going into the Science track. Before then the two didn't seem much different, and this is my first posting since."

Kiam paused, enough time for them to step into the Shuttlebay. By Sickbay standards it was massive, and two decks high. But to Kiam it was also so cold... impersonal... and so very open. Though today, a yellow-accented shuttlecraft- the Tennessee Williams sat ready on the center catapult. "It's worth looking in to. A lot of outsider perspectives and some opportunities for group thinking problems. The Captain of Medicine on the Zheng He's chaired it a few times."

Kiam spoke as out of the peripheral of her vision, she saw the movement of white uniform coming down the open ramp to the shuttle. It was Nurse Uyten Poe. She was hard to miss with her pixieish hair and her large, almost cat-like, round eyes. She was carrying medical supplies along with a pair of NCOs in copper.

"Good afternoon Sirs," Nurse Uyten Poe approached the two Doctors. "We're almost ready here," she said as the bronze-clad Yeomans came to relieve the Doctors of their supply burdens.

"Poe," Kiam greeted with a nod. She produced a PADD, "From Savrappi. I was just about to tell Doctor Guidry you'll be the first one of us on the surface. But once captain Zhukov sets up his field Sickbay, we'll be able to rotate duties down there."

"Yes Ma'am," Poe agreed, her massive cat-like eyes blinking with an unkempt amount of giddy enthusiasm.
