| Physical Description | Jaha Odan is a tall, sturdy Varro/Verro male. Physically, he looks very similar to a human on the exterior, with the exception of a series of horizontal ridges which run down the back of his neck and spine, a distinct feature of his Varro species. Jaha stands with broad shoulders and carries himself with confidence; but, very rarely appears intimidating as his eyes seem to radiate a calming sort of kindness. Jaha takes pride in his neat and wholesome appearance. He usually has a closely shaven face and carefully positioned hair. He strives to represent the best of Starfleet and his appearance aims to signal that. |

Personal History
| Early Life | Jaha Odan was born aboard the ECS Perseverance. He is considered a ‘Space Boomer,’ having been raised on a cargo freighter. Jaha came to know the ship inside and out and became obsessed with the operations of every system at an early age. When Jaha turned 21, he was married to the love of his life Tella Tran, a Varro female who was conveniently stationed on the Perseverance with her father. Jaha and Tella were married for seven years before a deadly ion storm which seemingly came out of nowhere destroyed the Perseverance and claimed nearly all lives of its crew, including Jaha’s wife, his parents and younger brother. The only survivor was Jaha. Jaha took the loss of everything he owned and everyone he loved exceptionally hard. The loss of the life of his wife was nearly unbearable. This was due to the Varro truth that all Varro traditionally mated for life. When two Varro had intimate relations, they experienced olan'vora – “the shared heart”. This made their body chemistries interdependent, which caused withdrawal symptoms if the two people ever separated, even in death. The effect got stronger with each coupling, and prolonged separation from their mate could literally be fatal for a Varro. In Jaha’s case, after the death of his wife, it took him months before he could open his eyes, and many months later before he could walk and talk. It took nearly two whole years before Jaha faced the fact that he would not die of a broken heart. He was forced to reassure himself that his survival did not mean he loved Tella any less. When he finally took his first full breath he met an elderly man, in an instance which could only be described as a moment of serendipity. The frail man he met was a retired Starfleet officer, who had once commanded a starship which had rescued 9 desperate Varro survivors nearly sixty years prior, just on the outskirts of Nausicaan Space. A man who had been responsible for rescuing his relatives all those years ago. To this day, Jaha still remembers what the man said to him, “The day will come my boy when the memory of the people you have lost brings a smile to your lips before a tear to your eye — that's when you know you're going to make it. Now smile, you’re going to make it...” Jaha felt inspired by the conversation and two days later joined Starfleet. When he graduated from the Academy, he was stationed aboard Deep Space 13. He served there for three years before he requested a transfer to a starship. While he had enjoyed his time aboard the space station, he itched to get out amongst the stars again. He was born on a ship against the glow of countless stars, and only there he truly felt his life could begin anew. His mission now is two-fold: one, to serve Starfleet to the best of his ability, and two, find every excuse to smile. |
Service Record
| Service Record | Personal History & Service Record: 1970s - The Varro launched four ships of exploration from their homeworld. Each ship set off on their journey in a different direction. As years went by, these ships became generational, and lost contact with the Varro homeworld. One such ship was the Olan'vora. 2321 - Over the years the Varro forgot parts of their history and started to refer to themselves as the Verro. The Olan'vora passed by a region of space controlled by the Nausicaan Confederacy. The large generational ship was an easy target and her crew was forced to ward off countless raids from Nausciaan pirates. After weeks of attack, a final Nausicaan raid led to the break off of a Varro quarter segment unit which left 9 Varro, several families stranded. The largely intact generational ship was forced to flee and leave the Varro behind. The Nausicaans took anything of value from the segment unit and left the Varro to drift and die in the darkness of space. The 9 Varro survived for twelve days before being picked up by the Starfleet vessel the USS Equinox. Unable to reunite the departed Varro with their mother ship, the families were taken instead to the Federation colony Noth-II. After their ordeal, it was here where the Varro decided to stay together and make a life for themselves. 2322 - The Verro, now at 10 and counting, decided to join the Earth Cargo Service (ECS). While the Earth Cargo Authority had dwindled in necessity since its heyday in the first half of the 22nd century, it still had a modest fleet of cargo vessels. The Varro saw their involvement in the ECS as an opportunity to stay together as one Varro family, return to traveling the stars, all while contributing to something more. The Varro were commissioned their own ship the ECS Perseverance, and began to move cargo. 2214 - A healthy Verro boy is born to Drall Odan and Selrid Tel-Odan. The boy is given the name Jaha Odan. 2234 - Jaha Odan is wed to a Verro female Tella Tran, who becomes known as Tella Tran-Odan. 2241 - The ECS Perseverance is destroyed by an ion storm and the crew is lost except one sole survivor, Jaha Odan. 2242 - Cadet Jaha Odan joins Starfleet, and begins his studies at Starfleet Academy. 2252 - Jaha Odan is assigned to the Zheng He, Chief Security Officer. |
