Character Outline
| Summary | There was very little time in Toby's life where a career in Starfleet and a life among the stars was not is goal. Such was his dedication as a young child that he neglected his social life throughout middleschool and early highschool until a small intervention from his Mother and older Brother to set him on a somewhat more normal path although his almost vulcan like dedication to absorbing as much information as he could had left him in very good standing academically. Holding a basic understanding of a broad number of subjects, there are few rooms he feels uncomfortable in which has regularly endeared him to his senior officers across his so far relatively short career. Among Starfleet his where he has so far thrived and up until Ulysses getting lost he had felt confident of a long and successful career although that has now been left a little more in question. |

| External Conflicts | Although more often than not feeling confident enough in his own ability to handle most issues that might come his way, Toby can be rather socially awkward at times, especially when the conversation or setting turns away from a professional or work related one. He also has a habit of taking on far more work than he can realistically handle, being unable to say no to any requests that come his way Despite this he has managed to become involved with young science officer with whom he had attended the academy and who by some good fortune had also been assigned to the Ulysses. |

| Internal Conflicts | Whilst the Ulysses getting lost might not have particularly fazed him inherently, Toby now wonders if any potential for proper career advancement has been lost with them. With this has raised doubts and questions over much of the future he'd planned in his head, including those with regard to personal relationships. These are all things that he will often forget about during his daily routine but often finds himself thinking about in quieter moments to the point where he has struggled to think about much else. |
Personality & Traits
| Hobbies & Interests | Reading. Since a young age, Toby has enjoyed reading, be it a good story or something more informational he has come to believe that books are severely underrated. Cooking. Creating good food has almost become his go to when he requires some personal time. It is something he has become rather good at over time although few have had the opportunity to sample his creatons as of yet. Music. Over the years, Toby has learned three instruments. The first and by far his strongest is the piano which he was initially taught by his mother as a young child, he is rather skilled at it although one has been quite hard to come by graduating from the Academy. The second is the Cello which he took up mid way through highschool at the request of an old friend who required one for the school band and subsequently decided to continue with. The third is the guitar which he began to learn during his time at the Academy since it seemed more fun and his classmates seemed to enjoy it - being far more portable than his other instruments, he has managed to carry one with him during his assignment to the Ulysses. He also sings a little to himself when there is nobody around to listen, he isn't bad. Sailing. There are many sports that Toby enjoys but his preferred one takes him to the water. It is once again, no something that he gets to do very often anymore but give him a sailing dinghy and a patch of open water and he's happy. |

Personal History
| Early Life | Born in Newport, Oregon on Earth, Toby was Civil Engineer Christopher and local government administrator Samantha's second born after their eldest son Oscar who is three years his brother's elder. Whilst both his parents were incredibly hard working, they still managed to provide for the two Jackson-Sanders brothers an incredibly warm and loving home, encouraging the pair to push themselves and expand their horizons regularly in what ever ways appealed to them. For Toby this meant making the most of not only the ocean that his home town sat next to but also the mountains and relative wilderness that wasn't not local to the town in which he was raised, developing a confidence in and affinity for both environments Despite both parents leading lives that found them largely Earthbound, growing up in a period of time just as Humanity was beginning to stretch their legs among the stars unsurprisingly lead to both Toby and his brother eyeing paths that would ultimately lead them away from their homeworld from young ages and whilst Oscar managed to juggle this ambition well among everything else in their lives, there were times for Toby that it was all he could focus on, with all else becoming secondary in his life. For long periods of his childhood, the youngest Jackson-Sanders child unknowingly relied on his parents to help him maintain a normal childhood balance of study and social occasions but when at just 10 years old his Father passed in what amounted to a terrible accident, it became harder for his Mother to help balance Toby's life and easier for him to indulge his desire to ensure a chance at Starfleet. Whilst it ensured he was a truely exemplary student, there were many common events and experiences that he missed out on through his school years. |

| Academy Life | Toby's acceptance into the Starfleet Academy was never in doubt, his performance at school comfortably demonstrating his strong academic ability and whilst he was immediately comfortable among Starfleet's most promising and whilst it was by far the biggest challenge he had faced in his life up to that point, his desire to take in as much information as he could from a young age had left him feeling comfortable enough to relax a little bit and indulge his growing desire for a more social existance. Managing to quite masterfully balance his academy studies with the various social commitments that would inevitably present themselves, he managed to tow the line between both worlds almost impeccably with the exception of a brief period in his third year where testing results briefly dipped. It was during this period that he met a young scientist named Freyja Kristiansen with whom he quickly grew close. Whilst enjoying one another's company, the pair also pushed one another to better themselves, sharing an enjoyment of learning along with many other things. It was surprising to nobody that the pair managaged to finish their academy time in the top 10% of their class |

| Starfleet Career | Departing the academy unfortunately split Toby and Freyja although not by far. Whilst she found herself assigned to a small Federation research post, Toby wound up aboard the Magee class USS Merson - the support vessel to said research post. The assignment largely consisted of supply runs and supporting any experiments the researchers would require a departure from their small station for, hardly a challenge nor very interesting but it was an experience that Toby used to better understand life aboard a starship. Moving on from the Merson in 2248 at her refit cycle came to end and the tiny Magee class vessel , Toby first arrived aboard the relatively more majestic USS Ulysses where he learned quickly the poor hand he'd been dealt with being sent to the USS Merson, the Ulysses being the superior assignemnt in every aspect he could imagine. Their mission assignments a million times more interesting and opportunities to prove ones self abundant, he hadn't realised how uncontent he'd been for the first couple of years of his career until he'd settled aboard the Ulysses. Years passed and people were reassigned. As much as Toby regretted seeing those he'd grown to consider close friends leave the starship Ulysses, he chose to look at the departures as an opportunity - pushing forward in an attempt to achieve promotion and ultimately succeeding as he was rewarded with a promotion to the rank of Lieutenant (Junior Grade) and a place among the Ulysses senior staff as Chief Operations Manager in the year 2250. Happily for Toby, as this promotion came into effect, the Ulysses recieved an influx of new crewmembers. Among them a young scientist nameed Freyja Kristiansen. |
