Character Outline
Summary | Sturnack is a difficult person to get along with, as is the case with many Vulcans. However, he does not share the same "distaste" for humans as many of his kind do. He is, in fact, quite fascinated by their behavior and considers himself a student of their nature. He constantly wonders how human beings were able to pick themselves up from the dark ages of pre-warp and become the head of a quadrant-spanning Federation in only a few hundred years. While his category 1 duties keep him quite busy in the engine room and other vital parts of the ship, the young Vulcan can often be found quietly observing those around him.
External Conflicts | Sturnack needs to have others needle and encourage him to integrate with the crew. By default, he considers himself an observer of the human condition rather than a participant. He also has a rather inflated sense of self and will need to be humbled a bit.
Internal Conflicts | After the destruction of the Sagan, Sturnack (secretly) withholds himself from connecting with others out of fear of losing them. I'd like to see Sturnack come to terms with the loss of his former home and friends in a way that helps him to embrace his new home and new friends. Sturnack's mother -- the Matriarch of their family -- is exceptionally displeased that her son has joined Starfleet rather than the science academy. She may show up from time to time, attempting to strong arm him into leaving. Sturnack is an inventor of sorts: would love to see him come up with some quality of life improvements for the technology of the time period, with respect to canon. |
Personality & Traits
Sexual Orientation | Bisexual
General Overview | A young man (by Vulcan standards), Sturnack is a skilled engineer newly arrived on the USS-Ulysses. After having spent several years as an Ensign aboard the USS-Sagan, Sturnack found himself without a home when the ship was caught in a spatial anomaly and destroyed. Arriving for his new assignment on the Ulysses, the Vulcan seems not the least bit interested in integrating with the crew. He keeps his head down and delivers his work efficiently and expertly, though makes no efforts to get to know those around him.
Strengths | * Exceptionally bright * Great problem solving skills * Skilled engineer * Greatly interested in human nature |
|
Weaknesses | * Self-isolating * A bit acerbic * Assumptive of personal correctness over others * Hates being called "Sturn" |
|
Personal Goals | One day Sturnack sees himself as the C-in-C of Starfleet, though that day is many, many years away. The Vulcan recognizes that he has much to learn if he is to someday become the head of Starfleet Command. In the meantime, he aspires to rise through the ranks at a pace that keeps him moving toward his goals without them becoming an obsession.
Hobbies & Interests | * Reading * Music * Inventing new gadgets or methodologies * Observing and analyzing human behavior |

Personal History
Early Life | Sturnack left home early in life, choosing to pursue a career in Starfleet over entry into the Vulcan Science Academy. Eschewing the sciences so valued by his family, Sturnack sought to achieve a greater understanding of humanity -- and the galaxy at large -- by joining the Federation's psuedo-space naval arm.
Academy Life | Sturnack had a difficult time at the Academy. Human behaviors proved an anathema to him and, if it weren't for a young Andorian woman who'd become his de facto best friend, the Vulcan might have dropped from the Academy altogether -- though he would never tell her this. After four years of intensive study and practical application, Sturnack graduated with high honors, though did not deign himself to compete for the Valedictorian honors of his class.
Starfleet Career | As an Ensign on the USS-Sagan, Sturnack worked his way up from junior Engineer to Engineering Officer. He proved himself exceptionally skilled in this role and, prior to the Sagan's destruction, Sturnack was being considered as a candidate for the Assistant Chief Engineer role. After the ship's destruction, however, the Vulcan was returned to the pool of available Engineering Officers for assignment throughout the fleet. |
