Personal History
| Early Life | Lukas Timothy Schaefer’s life got off to a rough start when his mother, Emilie, perished in an air-car accident while in her eighth month of pregnancy. Emilie had attempted to return home from her workplace on Izar after learning the USS Valiant, the ship on which her Husband served, had been listed as Missing in Space. She became distraught on the drive home, fearing Kurt, Timo’s father, had perished on some cold planet in space. The log files were too badly corrupted for the investigators to determine why Emilie hadn’t slowed the vehicle before impacting their residence. With his father missing and Emilie having no family on Izar, Lukas's aunt Karin, on his father's side, agreed to take him in until the Valiant was found. Almost immediately, Karine began calling Lukas Timo, a shortened version of his middle name, and it stuck. Karin would never have won any parent of the year awards, but she cared for Timo in her own unique way. She had never intended to have children and resented the loss of her independence. Though she was careful not to blame Timo for her situation, she did often cast blame towards his parents for putting her in the situation in the first place. So in early 2223, when Timo was five, Karin saw a chance to reclaim some of her independence when a wealthy Farian, Thamus, visiting Izar for business, took an interest in her. After dating for several months, Karin agreed to marry and move with Thamus to Fairius Prime. The responsibility for Timo's upbringing shifted almost instantly to tutors and house servants. It was more the life of a wealthy aristocrat on old earth than that of Federation citizens. For a time, Timo was caught up in the glitz and glamour of such a lavish lifestyle, but as he entered his teenage years, much to the chagrin of Karin and Thamus, he began to take notice of the backs in which that lifestyle was built on. As Timo delved into Thamus's company's inner working, he couldn't ignore the corruption he witnessed. This provoked numerous arguments and threats from Thamus towards Timo. Karin disapproved of Thamus's reaction, but she remained silent. As Timo's resentment against Thamus grew, he decided he couldn't remain on Farius Prime for the rest of his life. It was quite a relief for all three when Timo was accepted into the Academy. Timo left for Earth nearly a year before he was scheduled to enroll at the Academy. He was happy to see Farius Prime fade from view as the transport pulled away, and he hoped never to see the planet again. |
